Pathways to Teaching
Garden City Public Schools partners with many Kansas universities to offer teacher education programs. Options are available for everyone - from those who have never taken a college course to those with graduate degrees seeking to obtain a teaching license, you can become a certified educator!
Fort Hays State University offers several programs for Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Master of Science in Education, and Special Education. Most programs are available 100% online.
Newman University offers an Accelerated Pathway to Teaching Program that is the quickest way to become a certified teacher - 16 months for students with an Associate's Degree!
NU also offers a graduate degree program for graduates who currently possess an undergraduate degree in a major other than education.
Wichita State University offers online courses for paraprofessionals or long-term subs to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Early Child Unified/Elementary Education. Students are not required to have completed any general education courses before starting this Teacher Apprentice Program (TAP). Experience working as a para will earn you college credit toward your degree.
Pittsburgh State University has designed a program specifically for paraprofessionals to earn their Elementary Education Unified degree. Students in the program become proficient in both general education and special education for grades K-6.

KSDE Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Program provides aspiring teachers a structured training program that combines on-the-job learning and related technical instruction.
Kansas State University offers a 12-month online Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program. This program is available for students who are teaching under a LEAP license and those not currently working in education.

Scholarship and Grants
All students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA) in order to maximize their eligibility for scholarships and grants. Our Personnel Department can connect you with resources to get help in completing your application.
K-State Land Grant Promise / EspaƱol - Kansas State University will provide an award to eligible students to cover the cost of in-state tuition.
TEACH Grant - The TEACH Grant provides up to $4,000 a year to students who meet certain criteria and commit to a service obligation. Contact the financial aid office at the school where you will be enrolled to find out whether the school participates in the TEACH Grant Program and to learn about the programs of study at the school that are TEACH-Grant-eligible.
