The Garden City High School Drama Department is proud to announce the season performances for the 2017-2018 school year.  The department will begin the year with the musical In the Heights with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegria Hudes.  This production will be presented in November 2017.  This modern musical by the writer of Hamilton: An American Musical, centers on a diverse Hispanic community in Washington Heights, NY and the day to day struggles of life, love, and loss.

The second show will be Lewis Carrol’s Alice in Wonderland, adapted for the stage by GCHS teachers Robyn Hilt and Alice Hilt.  This play will be the first show produced by the new Advanced Repertory Theatre class.  This beloved tale of the curious Alice will take place in December 2017.

Be prepared to take flight in February 2018, with a tale that pre-dates J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, as the school presents Peter and the Starcatcher by Rick Elise and music by Wayne Barker.  This is a play with musical numbers, and it tells how the boy who never grew up came into existence.

The final production of the school year will be the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Cinderella.  Enjoy a lovely night of classical musical theatre, as the Advanced Repertory Theatre presents this fairytale brought to life in April 2018.

The GCHS Drama Department is now taking season ticket subscriptions. Each subscription gains entrance to each of the main stage productions at the cost of $15 per subscription; this is a savings of $5 on tickets over the entire season per season pass.

Subscribers will be notified by email or phone prior to productions to reserve their seats on the night of their choice prior to opening sales to the public.  There will be no service charge for reserving online.  This allows season ticket holders to gain first access to their choice of seating, and subscribers will have their tickets emailed to them to avoid lines at the box office by printing them or showing them to an usher by using their cell phone.
