Garden City Public Schools Board of Education met on Monday, July 24, 2023. The meeting was held at the Educational Support Center Board Room, 1205 Fleming Street.
The board continued their discussion on a possible partnership between the district and the Little Leaders of GCK. They received a presentation on the Little Leaders of GCK and a proposed partnership between the district and the organization at the last board meeting. There was no action taken on this item. It was tabled for continued discussion at the next meeting.
Under new business, the board will consider committee assignments amongst the board members for the upcoming school year. They looked at Board Policy EBC, Security and Safety. This was a first read of the policy and no action was taken on the item at the meeting. They also approved the handbooks for the 2023-24 school year. They took the Administrator Handbook off of the agenda and will discuss it at a special meeting on Thursday, July 27 at 7:30 a.m. in the Educational Support Center Board Room, 1205 Fleming Street.
Shane Faurot, Director of Plant Facilities, had Northpoint and Square Contracting, third-party roof consultants, each present proposals regarding representing the district in filing roof claims to the district’s insurance carrier.
Shane Faurot, Director of Plant Facilities, provided an update on the projects that have been taking place at across the district during the summer. There are HVAC projects taking place at a number of schools across the district. A number of flooring projects are complete or are in the process. Safe and security enhancements are being done at a number of schools and buildings. The paint crews have wrap-up and buildings are ready for the school year. They used 300 gallons of paint for the various projects across the district.
The Board held two executive sessions after the completion of all other business.
The first executive session was for consultation with an attorney for the body or agency which would be deemed privileged in attorney-client relationship. The second was for matters involving confidential data relating to financial affairs or trade secrets of corporations, partnerships, trusts, and individual proprietorships. There was no action taken after the executive sessions.
The board approved the following items during the meeting. They include: Minutes of the July 10 meeting and July 17 retreat; Sole Source Purchase for Inservice Materials to be paid with Significant Disproportionality Funds for $16,676.45; the Certified Physical Therapist Services Agreement between the district and Jessica King for the 2023-2024 school year; an agreement between Centura Siena Medical Audiology Clinic and the district for the 2023-24 school year; and handbooks for the 2023-24 school year.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education will be Monday, August 14, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming Street.
