Garden City Public Schools has scheduled open houses for the start of the school year. Open houses provide parents the opportunity to become familiar with the schools, teachers, and classrooms that their children will be attending.
Open houses on Monday, August 14 include:
- Abe Hubert Elementary School, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
- Alta Brown Elementary School, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
- Buffalo Jones Elementary School, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
- Edith Scheuerman Elementary School, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
- Florence Wilson Elementary School, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
- Georgia Matthews Elementary School, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
- Gertrude Walker Elementary School, 4:45 - 6:00 p.m.
- Jennie Barker Elementary School, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
- Jennie Wilson Elementary School, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
- Plymell Elementary School, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.*
- Victor Ornelas Elementary School, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.
- Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.
- Charles O. Stones Intermediate Center, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
- Horace J. Good Middle School, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
- Kenneth Henderson Middle School, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.,
- Garden City High School, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
*There will be a Kindergarten Meet and Greet that will be held on Monday, August 14 at Plymell Elementary School from 5:30 - 6:00 p.m.
Open houses on Tuesday, August 15 include Garden City Achieve and the Virtual Academy, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Open house on Thursday, August 17 will be Garfield Early Childhood Center, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
The district is asking parents to update their contact information with the schools. The district needs this contact information so buildings can contact families on any updates as we progress through the school year.
The first day of school for the 2023-24 school year will be Tuesday, August 15, with a half-day orientation for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, seventh grade, ninth and tenth grades and all students new to Garden City Public Schools. The first full day of school for the district will be Wednesday, August 16, 2023. All classes for elementary through high school will be in session for the start of the 2023-24 school year.
The first day of school for Garfield Early Childhood Center is Monday, August 21, 2023. The morning session will start at 8:30 a.m. and the afternoon session will begin at 12:15 p.m.
