The Garden City High School Drama Department is excited to announce its 2023-2024 season. The season will begin with The Alibis on September 28th, 30th and October 1st. When eccentric billionaire J. Leslie Arlington is murdered, a clueless detective finds the suspects are all reluctant to admit their alibis. It is because they were all committing other ridiculous crimes at the time. This collection of short whodunnits is student directed by GCHS Drama Students and Alice Hilt.
The second production of the season will be The Addams Family: The Musical (School Edition) on November 10th-12th. The show is based upon “The Addams Family” characters created by Charles Addams in his single-panel gag cartoons, which depict a ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things disturbing. Wednesday Addams has fallen in love and brings the boy, Lucas Beineke, and his parents to meet her family. Addams Family will be directed by Alice Hilt.
The third production will be A Midsummer Night’s Dream on February 2nd - 4th. Four Athenians run away to the forest only to have Puck the fairy make both of the boys fall in love with the same girl. The four run through the forest pursuing each other while Puck helps his master play a trick on the fairy queen. In the end, Puck reverses the magic, and the two couples reconcile and marry. This classic play by William Shakespeare is sure to have you in stiches. Midsummer will be directed by Mark Van Savage.
The fourth production of the season will be Bethel Park Falls on March 22nd – 24th. Sixteen locals grapple with the loss of jobs, homes, and spouses, but find love, courage, and forgiveness as the park magically transforms through four seasons of the year in a single day. Bethel Park Falls will be directed by Alice Hilt
The final show of the season will be Mean Girls: The Musical (High School Edition) on April 12th- 14th. It is a musical based on the popular 2004 movie. Cady Heron, a teenager moves from Africa to Illinois and enters a new high school. As she tries to fit in and climb the popularity ladder, she learns important lessons about friendship, authenticity, and the consequences of her actions. This musical explores the challenges of teenage life and the importance of staying true to oneself. Mean Girls will be directed by Alice Hilt.
Tickets for all shows are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students. The box office opens an hour prior to the production for the purchase of tickets at the door. Cash, checks, and credit/debit cards are accepted. Shows Thursday-Saturday begin promptly at 7 pm, and Sunday shows begin at 2:30 pm. Please arrive at least ten minutes prior to the show to ensure seating before the show begins.
The department is currently looking for businesses and individuals to sponsor the season. Season sponsors receive discounted season sponsor passes (4 tickets per pass), advertising/recognition in our programs and preshow and a tax deduction. Sponsorships begin as low as $25 up to $500.
