Board of Education Meeting Recap October 16

Garden City Public Schools Board of Education met during a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, October 16, 2023. The meeting was held at the Educational Support Center Board Room, 1205 Fleming Street. 

The Board received a building presentation from Florence Wilson Elementary School. Ciara Crandall and Trace Waugh and members of the Lighthouse team provided information on the things that have been happening during the first part of the school year along with goals and how they are educating students. The Lighthouse team is made up of third and fourth grade students who are leaders in the school and help plan service projects, school events, run the school store and brainstorm on helping make the school a better place.

They received an update on the recent ASQ screening that took place on September 9 from Brian Kott, Georgia Matthews Elementary School Principal. The Ages and Stages screener is state required and it provides a developmental snapshot approach to look at Kindergarten Readiness for students.

They had a first read and discussed board policy IHF Graduation Requirements. There was also a first read on a Student Teacher Agreement - Long Term Substitute Placement. There was no action taken on the policy and agreement. They will take up the requirements and agreement again at the next board meeting for a vote.

They approved a Video Archiver from Sandifer for $17,248.00. They also approved LEAP and RISE Furniture and Equipment from DEMCO for $75,716.00.

The board held an executive session after the completion of all other business.  The executive session was for personnel matters of non-elected personnel. No action was taken after the executive session.

The board approved the following items during the meeting.  They include: Minutes of the October 2 regular meeting; revised Board Policy AG Closing School Buildings; revised Board Policy CCA Organizational Chart; IEP Review agreement between Rhonda Stuvick and the district; the Temporary Transportation Driver agreement between James Moreno, Tyia Reed and the school district.

The next meeting of the Board of Education will be Monday, November 6, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming Street.
