Board of Education Meeting Recap August 5

Garden City Public Schools Board of Education met on Monday, August 5, 2024.  The meeting was held at the Educational Support Center Board Room, 1205 Fleming Street. 

The board recognized Michelle Shull, Health Services Coordinator, as the 2024 School Nurse Administrator of the Year from the Kansas School Nurse Organization.

Under new business, the Board approved the election a delegate, Andy Fahrmeier, and alternate delegate, Randy Ralston, for Kansas Association of School Board's Delegate Assembly on Saturday, November 16, 2024, as part of the KASB Annual Convention. The board considered committee assignments amongst the board members for the upcoming school year. There was a presentation on the 2024-2025 Budget. There was discussion on the search process for a new superintendent.

The board approved the following items during the meeting.  They include minutes of the July 22 meeting; Garfield Early Childhood Center Student/Parent handbook; and Horace Good Middle School and Kenneth Henderson Middle School handbook. Renewal of Power School Perform for dates of October 29, 2024, to October 28, 2025, for Personnel for $21,354.06. Clinical Contract Agreement between Garden City Community College and the school district. The revised Board of Education Policy CAA, Organizational Chart. Josh Guymon was appointed as Deputy Superintendent. IEP Reviewer Services Agreement between the district and Rhonda Stuvick. School schedule changes of Garfield Early Childhood Center AM: 8:45 – 11:45 a.m. and PM: 1:15 – 4:20 p.m. Bernadine Sitts and Charles Stones Intermediate Centers: 8:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The SRO agreement between the district and the City of Garden City Police Department. The USD 457 FERPA agreement. 

The Board held two executive sessions after the completion of all other business. The executive sessions were for personnel matters for non-elected personnel. No action was taken after the executive sessions.

The next meeting of the Board of Education will be Monday, August 19, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming Street.
