Eclipsed

The Garden City High School drama department will present “Eclipsed” on October 4th and 5th at 7:00 p.m. There will be a matinee on October 6th at 2:30 p.m. The performances will be held in the auditorium on the Garden City High School campus, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd. This play does have some adult themes and may not be suitable for young children.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets may be purchased at https://www.onthestage.tickets/garden-city-high-school2/individual-tickets, from cast members or at the door at the performances. However, tickets at the door are $7 for students and $12 for adults. The box office opens an hour prior to the production for the purchase of tickets at the door. Cash, checks, and credit/debit cards are accepted. Please arrive at least ten minutes prior to the show to ensure seating before the show begins.

Synopsis: Eclipsed characterizes four of the penitents within the Irsih Magdalene Laundry - young, passionately alive women forgotten by the outside world, eclipsed from the light of life and human connection. Discarded and forgotten by society, these "fallen women" are stripped of their human rights, forced into slave labor and religious conformity. With hope of being rescued, the women-physically and emotionally abused - fight to keep hope alive amidst songs, stories and playful ideas of marrying Elvis. "Eclipsed" was one of the first plays to tell the story of the Magdalene Laundries. After seeing the horrendous goings on in the laundries as a young novitiate, playwright Patricia Burke Brogan decided to highlight the plight of these women. Over 30,000 girls passed through these institutions, the last one closed in 1996. 

Cast: Julia Facio (senior) plays Mother Victoria who is the superior nun in charge of the laundry. Lila Scrivner (sophomore) plays Sister Virginia, a young novice nun who witnesses the horrors of the laundry and is called to act. The penitent women are Cathy played by Zephyr Hernandez (sophomore), Mandy played by Sophia Sobba (freshman), Nellie-Nora played by Emelin Dominguez (sophomore), and Brigit played by Marsae Hanneman (sophomore). Juliet, a young orphan girl whose mother was a penitent woman) is played by Veronica Vargas (freshman). Rosa, Brigit’s daughter who was adopted by an American couple, is played by Journie Wilson (freshman). Swings are Journie Wilson (freshman), Leslie Perez (junior), and Skylee Stark (junior).

Robyn Hilt is the Director. Assistant Directors are Mark Van Savage and Alice Hilt. The set, lighting and sound were designed by Alice Hilt with the Technical Theater classes. Costume designer is Robyn Hilt. Stage Manager is Nic Vigil (junior). Assistant Stage Managers are Oliver Spencer (junior) & Corbin Huber (sophomore). Light Board Operator is Zane Sorensen (sophomore). Sound Board Operators are Izzy Frey (senior) & Hayden Schaffer (sophomore). Artwork for poster and program was designed by Aylin Robledo (sophomore).
