Garden City Achieve student, Diego Torres Rosales, won the Outstanding Student Technology Award for his outstanding use of his Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) communication device. The AAC devices are used for nonverbal students to assist with communication. They choose pictures and words on a screen or type their own words, and the device speaks for them.
Diego and his mom were able to attend this event along with his teacher Caitlin Sotelo, and para, Andrea Rivera. They were all very excited and proud of him receiving this prestigious award.
He won the award during the Kansas Infinitec Coalition Outstanding Student Technology Awards luncheon that was held during the Kansas Infinitec Coalition Conference on Friday, December 6th in Wichita, Kansas. The award luncheon is to honor students who are using assistive technology to better their learning experiences in the classroom.
