Board of Education Meeting Recap

Garden City Public Schools Board of Education met during a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, January 6, 2025. The meeting was held at the Educational Support Center Board Room, 1205 Fleming Street. 

The Board voted on a resolution to establish election of school board officers in July. The current president of the board is Randy Ralston and the current vice-president of the board is Andy Fahrmeier.  

The Board recognized Garden City Achieve student, Diego Torres Rosales, for being awarded the Outstanding Student Technology Award for outstanding use of his AAC communication device.

January is School Board Recognition Month. The district acknowledges the important contributions school board members make to their community. The Board of Education members include: Robin Bergkamp, Andy Fahrmeier, Jackie Gigot, Nathan Haeck, Mark Hinde, Randy Ralston, and John Wiese.

The Board received the district audit report from Lewis, Hooper and Dick, LLC.  It was an unmodified auditor’s report.

The Board approved the following items during the meeting. They include minutes of the December 19, 2024, regular meeting. Accounts Payable with all major accounts containing adequate balances to meet current obligations. Personnel certified and classified actions. Resolution to Establish Board Meeting Dates and Times. Scheduling Board of Education meeting dates for July: July 7, 2025, and July 21, 2025.

Under new business, there was first read of the following new courses from the Curriculum Council: Exploring Art Careers, A.P. United State Government Politics, and Functional Academics curriculum. Discussion of new all-inclusive playground with ADA-compliant turf footing for Edith Scheuerman Elementary School. Discussion of Cenobots Autonomous Scrubber and Sweeper from Pur-O-Zone. Discussion of a Fire Alarm system at Plymell Elementary School. Approved an HVAC system at Horace Good Middle School.

The Board held two executive sessions after the completion of all other business. The first executive session was for preliminary discussion relating to the acquisition of real property. The second executive session was for personnel matters for non-elected personnel. No action was taken after the executive sessions.

The next meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming Street.
