Read Across America Activities

Garden City Public Schools will be celebrating Read Across America Week, which runs from March 3–7, 2025. Read Across America is a week-long nationwide movement filled with exciting events intended to spark a love of reading for students.

March brings all things reading to light with National Reading Month and Read Across America Week celebrations. Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA) and guided by a committee of educators, NEA’s Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. This year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone.

There will be themed days throughout the week to help celebrate Read Across America.

  • Monday is Cozy Up with a Good Book – Wear your PJs to school.

  • Tuesday is Fancy Like Nancy Day – Dress in your fanciest attire just like Fancy Nancy!

  • Wednesday is Clifford Red Day – Celebrate Clifford the Big Red Dog by wearing red.

  • Thursday is PAWSitivily WILD about reading – Wear animal prints to show your love of reading.

  • Friday – Read with your bestie – Bring a stuffed animal to school and read to him today!

The titles and resources featured by NEA’s Read Across America include books that students can see themselves reflected in, as well as books that allow readers to see a world or a character that might be different than them. Readers who feel included, recognized, and a part of the world are engaged readers.
