Music Students Advance To State

The Garden City High School music students traveled to Dodge City for Regional Solo/Small Ensemble contest on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Students that received a “I” rating advanced to state competition that will take place in Topeka on April 26, 2025. The students were judged by a very high standard and students received “I” ratings (Outstanding), and “II” ratings (Excellent), and “III” ratings (Average).

The Garden City High School band took 27 students to perform at the regional solo/ensemble festival. There was a total of 26 events, 19 solos and 7 ensembles. The students came away with 13 "I" ratings (outstanding) and 10 "II" ratings (excellence).  

The GCHS band soloists and ensembles that received a “I” rating. The soloists include Law Htoo, Savanna Reyes, Ezequiel Lopez, Sophia Sobba, Jacob Pannenter, Luis Martinez, Kaylin Nonhof, and Anabel Reyes. Ensembles include Flute Trio: Aiden Valdivia-Hernandez, Angel Robledo, and Hailey Moreno. Saxophone Quartet: Aiden Valdivia-Hernandez, Kaylin Nonhof, Luis Martinez, and Froilan Barajas. Brass Quartet: Emma Banwell, Joey Nguyen, Gabriel Buruca, and Juan Soto-Rocha. Clarinet Choir Ezequiel Lopez, Christopher Aquayo, Ricky Bailey, Adriana Montoya, Kaylin Nonhof, Anabel Reyes, and Emily Reyes. Trombone Quartet Joey Nguyen, Gabriel Buruca, Victor Ortiz, and Law Htoo.

Soloists and ensembles that received a “II” rating include: Angel Robledo, Aiden Valdivia-Hernandez, Kaydence Gomez, Juan Soto-Rocha, Luis Vasquez, Emma Banwell, Gabriel Buruca, and Elijah Contreras.

Saxophone Quartet: Cristopher Aguayo, Adriana Montoya, Haylee Morales, and Valorie Morales. Clarinet Duet: Anabel Reyes and Laura Nguyen.

The GCHS band director is Ryan Partin.  Andrew Thiesen is the assistant band director.

Garden City High School choir took two ensembles and 26 soloists to the competition.  The students came away with: 15 - "I" ratings (outstanding) and 12 “II” ratings (excellent).

The GCHS choir soloists and ensembles that received a “I” rating include: Emma Haeck, Daniela Loya, Paige Sanders, Gustavo Hiracheta, Annalise York, Tristan Garcia, Sabrina Rodriguez, Raelee James-Crist, Marsae Hanneman, Alysson Acosta, Chandler Hass-Powers, Georgiana Lozano, Miguel Aleman, and Brady Cessna.  Ensembles: Vocal Jazz and Buffalo Men.

Soloists and that received a “II” rating include: Karly James, Skylee Stark, Juvey Chairez, Albert Revolorio, Anahi Martinez, Jackson Myerhoff, Veronica Vargas, Kaleb Knoll, McKenna Leon, Zephyr Hernandez,

Ava Spencer, and Emelin Dominguez.

The GCHS choir director is Abigail Martinez. GCHS accompanists were Andrew Zoschke and Jennifer Sanders.

 The Garden City High School orchestra had 41 students perform at the regional solo/ensemble festival. The orchestra received 22 "I" ratings, 14 - "II" ratings, and two "III" ratings. There were three ensembles and 19 solos that qualified for state.

 The GCHS orchestra soloists and ensembles that received a “I” rating. The soloists include: Michael Oswalt, Wahler Taw, Juan Delgado, Janet Garcia, Kei Kempi, Yaneli Armenta, Julia Facio, Justin Contreras, John Nguyen, Paige Sanders, Alex Argueta, Annalise York, Lexi Peters, Emelin Dominguez-Romero, Joseph Miller, Law Htoo, Charlotte Cheney, Bryson Workman, and Ailyn Arroyo.

 The ensembles includes: Senior quintet: Justin Contreras, Alex Argueta, Xander Flores, Annalise York, and Julia Facio.  Sophomore Ensemble:  Emelin Dominguez Romero, Lexi Peters, Jizelle Velasquez, Isaac Varela, Devin Pelton, Hunter Shafer, Bryson Workman, Yaneli Armenta, Liliana Hernandez, Law K Htoo, Xochitl Paredes, Hayden Schaffer, and Ailyn Arroyo.  Chamber Orchestra: Justin Contreras, John Nguyen, Madison Bennett, Robert Smith, Alex Argueta, Dakota Marcellus, Charlotte Cheney, Xander Flores, Amelia Cruz, Ava Galvan, Emelyn Caro, Annalise York, Wahler Taw, Bryce Orlich, Joseph Miller, Braidyn Orebaugh, Julia Facio, and Kei Kempis.  

 Soloists and ensemble that received a “II” rating include: Madison Bennett, Amelia Cruz, Anahi Cruz, Devin Pelton, Georgiana Lozano, Kiahna Reyes, Robert Smith, Braidyn Orebaugh, Sammy Gonzalez, Hayden Schaffer, Mirayah Florez, Ezekiel Milholland-McMillan, and Leavan Knier. Nerd Quartet: Charlotte Cheny, Madison Bennett, Amelia Cruz, and Bryce Orlich.

Soloists that received a “III” rating include: Allyson Blanco and Sander Flores.

Summer Miller is the director of the high school orchestras.
