Garden City Public Schools will hold a meet-and-greet reception on Thursday, April 3 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming Street. The reception is for district staff, parents, and community patrons to visit with Josh Guymon, Deputy Superintendent, who was appointed by the Board of Education as Interim Superintendent of the district for the 2025-2026 school year.
Guymon will assume the role as Interim Superintendent on July 1, 2025, ensuring stability and continuity in district leadership. His appointment will run through June 30, 2026, during which time the Board will conduct a thorough search for a permanent superintendent for the district.
He is well positioned to guide the district through this transition. He currently serves as Deputy Superintendent of Support Services, where he oversees critical district operations. His previous roles included Assistant Superintendent of School Operations, Director of Special Education, Head Principal at Garfield Early Childhood Center, Abe Hubert Elementary, and Associate Principal at Victor Ornelas, Buffalo Jones, Alta Brown, and Florence Wilson Elementary Schools, and a teacher at Garden City High School and Florence Wilson Elementary. His extensive experience across multiple levels of education gives him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities within Garden City Public Schools and the community.
Guymon will oversee several key district initiatives in his new leadership position. They will include the adoption of a new English Language Arts curriculum to enhance literacy instruction across all grade levels and the redrawing of district boundaries to balance enrollment and resources. A continued focus on student reading growth remains a top priority as the District works to strengthen literacy initiatives and improve academic achievement.
The search for a permanent superintendent will begin in the fall of 2025, and community input will play a vital role in the selection process. The Board will provide regular updates and opportunities for stakeholders to share feedback as the search progresses.
