The Garden City High School drama department will present the side-splitting comedy “Leading Ladies” by Ken Ludwig on February 3 and 4 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a matinee on February 5 at 2:30 p.m. The performances will be held in the auditorium on the Garden City High School campus, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd. This play does have some adult themes and may not be suitable for young children.
Advanced ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets are now on sale and may be purchased at https://gchsdrama.booktix.com/index.php or at the box office the night of the performance, however tickets at the door are $7 for students and $12 for adults.
Synopsis: In this hilarious comedy by the author of Lend Me A Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo, two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing “Scenes from Shakespeare on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is, when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren’t nephews, but nieces! Romantic entanglements abound, especially when Leo falls head-over-petticoat in love with the old lady’s vivacious nice, Meg, who’s engaged to the local minister. Meg knows that there’s a wide world out there, but it’s not until she meets “Maxine and Stephanie” that she finally get a taste of it.
Cast: Ryan Pilosof (senior) plays Leo Clark and Santiago Rueda (junior) plays Jack Gable. Florence Snider is played by Emma Lightner (junior). Her niece, Meg, is played by Pierre Madlangbayan (junior). Meg’s best friend, Audrey, is played by Hayley Loya (junior). Meg’s fiancé, Duncan Wooley, is played by Logan Wyatt (junior). Doctor Myers, Florence’s physician, is played by Gavin Norton (junior), and his son, Butch, is played by Cesar Altamirano (senior). Silas Lobmeyer plays Moose Frank and a Cop and is the understudy for Doc and Jack. Carlos Monteagudo-Alvarez (junior) is the conductor and a cop and understudies Butch. Bubbles Schaffer and Trixie McCall are played by Christy Donovan (sophomore) and Katrina Almaguer (junior). Almaguer also understudies Florence and Meg, while Donovan understudies Audrey and Meg. Norton understudies the role of Leo, and Altamirano understudies for Duncan.
Alice Hilt is the Director. Assistant Directors are Mark Van Savage and Robyn Hilt. The set, lighting and sound were designed by Alice Hilt with the Technical Theater classes.
